Canaan Fair Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (506 Harley Road, Williston) held its Thanksgiving Community Project on Nov. 24 to pack boxes of food for families in need. While the church has given away turkeys in the past, this was the first year they provided entire Thanksgiving meals.
"Because of the season we are in, there are a lot of people who are out of work or working less. We are blessed as a church. The Bible says to whom much is given, much is required," said Pastor Sandra Winfield.
The church reached out to the three public schools in Williston and received names of families who could benefit from the meals. The church hopes having the Thanksgiving meal taken care of will bless the families and allow them to put their money toward other bills, like utilities or medicine.
"We are feeding them physically but we hope somebody is blessed spiritually as well," said Winfield.
